Marrakech was one of those places I always wanted to visit for travel photography, but never seemed to get round to it. In 2016 I had the opportunity to fly to Marrakech for business and made the most of my time by including some street and travel photography.

Having seen what Marrakech has to offer I returned in 2019. Getting up early is essential, you avoid the crowds and can get some images before the heat becomes unbearable. 

 

Be careful to avoid taking any images of military, police or their buildings as this could get you in a heap of trouble.  Also be aware that some people especially in the Jemaa El-Fnaa, the main square in the Medina, will expect to be paid if you take a photograph. The traders in the square make their living from tourists so they are very aware of cameras.

Away from the main square it can be more relaxed, so you can spend more time to find a good location or even sit outside a cafe and watch the world go by, getting a few images while you are there.

Marrakech is close enough to the UK to make it an excellent short break destination for street and travel photography, but with a culture that is a million miles from home
